YOUR NEXT WINTER ESCAPE: PUERTO VALLARTA - WHAT TO DO, WHERE TO EAT AND WHERE TO STAY.

PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO

For my birthday in 2022, I wanted to romanticize my life and some self-care. My goal was to relax by the beach, watch the sunset from beautiful restaurants, and do absolutely nothing else for five days.

Puerto Vallarta, located on Mexico’s Pacific coast, turned out to be the perfect solo destination. It offered an incredible mix of stunning beaches, magical sunsets, local culture, and delicious food. It’s a place where you can lounge on the beach one day and explore colorful markets the next.

The town also feels super safe for solo travelers, especially women, as it’s a popular spot for gays and retirees. I met people from all over the world, spanning all ages, and found the locals incredibly friendly and accommodating. Some even kindly helped me take photos, and I felt completely comfortable exploring the nightlife on my own.

My days were spent sleeping in, followed by a slow morning breakfast on my hotel’s incredible panoramic rooftop. By 12 PM, I was lounging on the beach or by the pool, occasionally chatting with random travelers. Around 5 PM, I got ready for dinner and headed to beachfront restaurants just before sunset. Yes, I made reservations ahead of time and told them it was my birthday LOL. Each restaurant made me feel extra special, and some even sang happy birthday with a beautiful violin. At night, I settled in my king size bed and watched Shark Tan in Spanish.

So, as the winter chill sets in, it’s the perfect time to plan your next warm-weather adventure (or birthday!). If you’re dreaming of a stunning destination with sunshine, magical sunsets, and a place to truly unwind, Puerto Vallarta is the place for you!

Trip Type: Relaxing Vacation | Recommended duration: 3-5 days

WHERE TO STAY:

  • Patio Azul: The highlight of my vacation, this stunning hotel is perched atop a hill, offering breathtaking views. It features 18 uniquely decorated rooms, each inspired by Mexican culture. I loved the intimate atmosphere, where the staff remembered your name, making the experience feel warm and personal. It’s conveniently close to everything yet secluded enough for a truly relaxing stay plus the hotel rooftop is home to a delicious restaurant with a delicious menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner . Patio Azul perfectly blends luxury with affordability.

Travel Pro Tip: You can often find better hotel rates by booking directly on the hotel’s website.

WHAT TO DO:

  • Enjoy a luxury sunset sailing experience for a fun-filled evening with stunning ocean views, hors d'oeuvres and champagne.

  • Explore the colorful streets of Zona Romántica, known for its art galleries and lively atmosphere.

  • Relax at Playa Los Muertos Beach, where you can rent a beach chair and enjoy the hustle and bustle of local vendors.

WHERE TO EAT:

  • La Cappella Restaurante: This elegant Italian restaurant offers breathtaking sunset views overlooking the beach and the iconic crown of the Guadalupe Church. My favorite part? The live violinists who play throughout the evening, creating a magical atmosphere.

  • Noroc: A standout spot in the heart of Puerto Vallarta's Romantic Zone, featuring recipes from around the world. The tables at the restaurant are beautifully surrounded by water, offering truly breathtaking views and a live saxophonist.

  • IK Mixology Bar & Cuisine: A beachside, open-air venue with a bohemian, “Tulum-esque” vibe that makes for the perfect backdrop to a sunset dinner. I loved the espresso martinis, the ambiance, and the exceptional service.
